ROOT CANAL THERAPY
Once an infection reaches the nerve of the tooth, a filling is not enough to fix it. The infection usually spreads to the bottom of the tooth, making it sore to bite on the tooth and sometimes forming an abscess on the gums. An antibiotic will temprarily control the infection, but in order to completely remove the infection, root canal therapy should be performed. If this procedure is started before the infection is too extensive, it is quite painless. Root canal therapy involves the removal of the infection and remaining nerve tissue and then fililing the remaining space with a special material called gutta percha. Often times a crown is required to strengthen the reamining tooth structure. Most teeth can be treated by the dentists at Essence Dental Aurora.
